Alison Middleton – Director, Author and Part-time French Teacher
As a peripatetic French teacher in Nottingham Alison Middleton currently teaches part time in Preschool and Key Stages 1 and 2. During her earlier years of teaching French, having become dissatisfied with the lack of available MFL resources for Primary pupils Alison began producing her own. From small beginnings Cartes Cochons has grown into a company that provides a wide range of resources for Modern Foreign Language Teaching, available in French, Spanish, German, Italian and English.
These resources include 2 French Songbooks+CDs, a large range of Topic and Grammar related posters in 2 sizes, A6 mini Picture Dictionary (33-49 mini posters) in English, French, Spanish, German. Colouring and vocabulary books in 2 sizes, 2 French Pupil Wordbooks or Dictionnaires organised alphabetically and phonically, a variety of Rewards eg. Bookmarks, Stampers, A6 Reward Cards, Certificates of Merit, 5in Foam Dice with pockets to hold a large collection of cards useful for a variety of games and classroom activities, Pupil Word Mats and Photocopiable Greetings Cards. In addition Cartes Cochons stocks the excellent Berthe series of illustrated books widely used in MFL teaching.
All the above help to enhance language learning with young children whilst facilitating the requirements of the National Curriculum. A foreign language has been a statutory requirement in KS2 from September 2014 . Some of the basic requirements are learning rhymes and poems in the studied language, an understanding of basic grammar, speaking in sentences, writing phrases and short sentences from memory , engaging in conversations and broadening vocabulary. Cartes Cochons’ resources are colourful, affordable, tried and tested by Alison in the classroom and help towards these requirements in Modern Foreign Language Learning.
